Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanges congratulatory messages with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades



October 1, 2020 marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 60th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades exchanged congratulatory messages.


President Xi pointed out in the message that China-Cyprus relations are moving forward with a sound momentum.The two countries have shown each other understanding and support on issues bearing on their respective core interests and major concerns. The friendship between the Chinese and Cypriot peoples has been further deepened as the two countries fought hand in hand against the COVID-19 pandemic. President Xi reaffirmed his commitment to growing China-Cyprus relations and his readiness to work with President Anastasiades as the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year, and advance the bilateral exchange and cooperation in various fields for new progress for the benefits of the Chinese and Cypriot people.


President Anastasiades noted in the message that China has shown determination and managed to overcome the very challenging and unprecedented pandemic with successs under the leadership of President Xi. Cyprus greatly appreciates the humanitarian assistance and generosity shown by the Chinese government to Cyprus during the difficult times in the early stage of outbreak of pandemic in Cyprus. President Anastasiades expressed his deepest appreciation for China's principled support in Cyprus'efforts in solving the Cyprus Problem as a Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council, reaffirmed the traditional strong links of friendship between China and Cyprus and his readiness to explore new areas of bilateral cooperation.   


On the same day, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also exchanged congratulatory messages with Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides.
