|Ambassador Huang Xingyuan Met with AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou|
On June 1, 2020, Ambassador Huang Xingyuan met with General Secretary of C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou, and discussed issues including bilateral relations, inter-party exchanges, China-Cyprus and global anti-pandemic cooperation, Hong Kong national security legislation and the Cyprus Problem.
Ambassador Huang spoke highly of the achievements of China-Cyprus cooperation in the joint fight against the pandemic and the strong solidarity from AKEL and General Secretary Kyprianou at a time when China was all out to fight against the COVID-19, which fully demonstrated the fraternity between the Communist Party of China and AKEL. The two parties will continue to strengthen the existing inter-party exchanges and cooperation. Ambassador Huang reiterated China's firm support to the resolution of the Cyprus Problem, saying that as a Permanent Member of the Security Council, China will continue to play a positive role to support the efforts of Cyprus to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to facilitate a just, reasonable and lasting solution to the Cyprus Problem through negotiation and dialogue on the basis of relevant UN resolutions.
Ambassador Huang Xingyuan elaborated on the importance of the Hong Kong national security legislation in establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for HKSAR to safeguard national security and stressed that Hong Kong-related issues are China's internal affairs.
General Secretary Kyprianou expressed his gratitude to China's timely and valuable aid to Cyprus as well as its efforts to support the global fight against the pandemic. He also spoke highly of China's key role in UNFICYP mandate renewal and the political process of Cyprus, and hopes to receive continued support from China.
General Secretary Kyprianou reiterated AKEL's consistent support for China's principled stance on Hong Kong-related and stressed the importance of international cooperation in face of the pandemic.
